6 Tips for Gorgeous Hair

Healthy hair is strong and glossy, but lots

Healthy hair is strong and glossy, but lots of things in your everyday life could be making it dull, weak, and lackluster. Nurse your hair back to health with these six tips from Beverly Hills Hair Restoration.

1. Look to your diet. Look at your diet to determine if you are eating a well-balanced diet and if you are lacking in any vitamins or nutrients. Nutritional deficiencies take a toll on the body physically, and not getting enough vitamins and nutrients can affect the health of your skin and hair. Vitamins like biotin, Vitamin E and even pre-natal vitamins can assist with keeping hair healthy.

2. Wash hair regularly to prevent hair loss.
Wash your hair regularly to prevent build-up and eliminate the potential presence of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) from forming in the hair follicles if you are already noticing hair loss. The word "regularly" varies for everyone - but if you tend to use styling products, it's best to wash everyday or every other day to avoid clogging the pores in the scalp and causing build-up.

3. Avoid alcohol-based hair products.
Try to eliminate or use very little of alcohol-based hair products. Hair products containing alcohol evaporate very quickly, but take with it the natural oil production in the hair that prevents dryness. Look for "alcohol" in the ingredients that can also be masked as "alcohol denatured", "methanol" and "isopropyl".

4. Limit the use of heat styling. Try to put down the blow dryer and curling iron occasionally to avoid breakage and dryness since excessive heat can weaken the follicles. Get a blow dryer with different heat settings and use a diffuser to target the air flow.

5. Avoid hairstyles that pull on the hair.
Avoid hairstyles that pull the hair back tightly, such as a too-tight ponytail or hair extensions. Constant strain on the hair can cause breakage and even hair loss if worn often enough.

6. Take a day off. Pick one day each week to give your hair a break, from styling, heat - all of the damaging habits that you do to your hair everyday. Take a Sunday and swear off the blow-dryer, curling iron and hair extensions to give your hair a rest.
