Dealing with the Doorman

Headed to the club with your friends? Maybe

Headed to the club with your friends? Maybe hitting a concert? No matter where you're headed out to, the nightlife comes with its own social cues. And you're most likely going to be dealing with a doorman, or bouncer in some capacity. One of my good friends happens to be a long-time door guy, and he gave me some tips to share about how to conduct yourself at the club.

1. Be nice. Don't be a jerk. This really seems to be the number one rule of life. Treat the staff of whatever establishment you are at for the evening well. You don't need to go out of your way to be overly polite, just don't cause any problems.

2. Don't fight. If you decide to get into a bro-down throw-down, do it down the street. Chances are, security will start smacking both parties around and throw you into a wall, and then into the street where you will need to deal with your concussion AND oncoming traffic. So keep it together. If you get yourself in a situation where it's looking like things might get rough, just leave. Or let security know, and they'll handle it.

3. Don't steal. On occasion, you've probably witnessed someone try to swipe a bottle from behind the counter, or swipe someone else's drink. Bad idea. This will most likely result in the beatdown of a lifetime.

So basically, just don't be a jerk. We can all handle that, right?
