Kid's Vertical Blinds

For older kids who wish to get involved

For older kids who wish to get involved with the decorating, this project will keep them busy and yields nice results. First purchase a vertical blind, hang the header and remove the louvers. Next purchase plexi-glass and have the local hardware or service center cut it into strips as wide as the louvers you removed, but in varying lengths. For example, if your lovers were 48" long, you will need lengths of 24, 12, 6 and 4". Purchase paint in a range of colors that is suitable for painting on glass or plastic. Paint your pieces and arrange them so that each chain has a variety of lengths that total (in this example) 46". The extra 2" will be created in the gaps between louvers. Drill holes in the tops and bottoms of each piece and hook them together with large stiff paper clips. Experiment until you have a pleasing arrangement of sizes and colors. It will bring a glow to the room, but not much privacy unless you use opaque paints.
