Chihuahuas are the smallest breed of dog, and as such even more attention needs to be paid to their diet. Since they are so tiny, it does not take much food for them to become overweight or possibly sick. So make sure to take great care when choosing a dog food. When it comes to dry vs. wet food, dry food is better because it is easier on their teeth. Wet food will tend to cling to a dogs teeth and cause dental problems down the road. Also be sure to choose a high quality dog food. A good rule of thumb to determine if a dog food is good quality is to look at the ingredients. The first ingredient should be a meat. Dogs are basically domesticated wolves and what do wolves eat? Meat! So it is important that whatever dog food you pick is high in protein, even for a tiny breed like a Chihuahua.
