When you’re driving on an interstate, there are a few tricks you can use to figure out which way you’re headed and whether or not you should take the “loops” around cities. Odd-numbered interstates run north-south. Even-numbered interstates run east-west (The only exception that I know of is I-69 Michigan, which runs north-south through Indiana, and then east-west through Michigan). If there are “loop” options -- like I-469 -- keep this in mind: if the first number is even, the loop will meet back up with its “parent” highway. If the first number is odd, the loop shoots off somewhere else and will not match up with its “parent.”
