If you want to get a splinter out of your hand fast without digging around under your skin with a needle and tweezers, this trick is for you:
Fill a small glass -- a shot glass works great for this -- almost to the brim with very hot water. Press the splinter-inflicted part of your hand to the glass until you feel it "seal" from the heat. The suction caused by the water cooling and the trapped steam will soften and gently pull on the splinter so you can nab it with tweezers. Sometimes, this method pulls the splinter out completely, no tweezing necessary.
