Seven kitchen gadgets I love, and five that are just taking up drawer space

On the right: A dowel that perfectly presses

On the right: A dowel that perfectly presses dough into mini muffin cups for tartlets; an egg slicer that makes quick and fancy work of hard boiled eggs for showy salads; an orange peeler that works as if the fruit had a zipper! A spice bag for hanging in the soup pot but not leaving you digging for that bay leaf; a spoon rest with enough depth to catch the sauce drippings; a Swedish potato tester, ok this one is frivolous, but it is so handy to poke through boiled potatoes and see if they are done; and finally an egg timer that you boil along with your eggs and it "shows" how far in your eggs are cooked. As for the useless stuff on the left: A salad chopper, I usually do that when I am washing the veggies, not when it is already in the bowl; a pizza wheel, this is what kitchen scissors are for and the scissors are much more versatile; an egg separator, use the shell and you're done before you could have found this implement; a honey dipper, yes they work well, but I like to buy tiny portions of honey and the dipper won't even fit in the bottle; apple sectioner, just chew around the core.
