Shelby Hayter--living with Parkinson's disease

We all have to deal with situations in which we don’t have control over the outcome. But we can control how we mentally deal with the situation. Getting involved in a young-onset support group has helped me because I can learn, take notes, and get comfort from people in the same situation. I strongly believe the key is to focus on what you can do, because that is a positive approach, as opposed to dwelling on what you can’t do. One thing that I can do is to use my energy and enthusiasm to help raise money for research and also to create awareness about the disease.

Bio: Shelby Hayter ran the Boston Marathon after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at age 42.  She is also very active in helping to increase awareness of Parkinson’s disease and to raise funds to help find a cure. Provided by:  www.survivingadversity.com
