If your small-battery device (read: portable CD player, TV remote control, etc.) is going dead, you can extend the life of your batteries for a few more weeks. Remove the batteries, wipe off the ends with a dry cloth, and change up the position of the batteries -- put battery #1 in space #2, battery #2 in space #1, etc. Apparently, this cleans the contact points and re-energizes the charges.
