Have a check/debit card is great and a safe way to spend your money, but because all you have to do is swipe your card to pay, it can feel a little too much like a bottomless well of funds. Because you don't physically see the money leaving you, it can be easy to overspend. One way I use to help control overspending is by using cash. On pay days, I will take out an budgeted amount of money for food and entertainment. Seeing the money physically helps me keep spending under control. Of course you do have to be more careful with cash because if you lose it, that's it. It's gone. At least with a debit/check card you can cancel it immediately to prevent someone from using it. Still, if you don't mind having to be more careful, using cash is a great way to good.
