Everyone who drives a stick shift knows that if you park on an incline, you need to use the emergency brake to make sure you don’t roll forwards or backwards down the hill. Even if your car has an automatic transmission, the emergency brake can be very useful. Using the emergency brake with an automatic transmission, although not necessary, helps take the pressure of gravity off of your gear shifter. Bonus: you’re supposed to use your parking brake every few months anyway to keep it “loose” for when you might need it, and this is a good way to do it.
