The owner of the plant nursery where I was employed would sometimes have me work on his personal garden. They had two llamas to protect
their sheep from coyotes. I would go there and I’d spend
more time with the llamas than I would completing my
gardening chores. In 2001, my husband and I moved out to
the country and bought a 100-year-old farmhouse with a
barn in the back. I felt that we had to get something to fill
the barn so we purchased Moondance, Flash, Xipe and
Treacle––four llamas.
The llamas are like a cross between a very big cat and
a teddy bear––calm, curious, gentle and very loving. And in
my opinion, extremely cute, too!
