If You Want People to Listen to You...

Stand still! This works for times when you want to be seen as authoritative and in control, whether you’re giving directions, speaking to an audience or giving a presentation at work. If you fidget, rock back and forth, stare at the floor or play with note cards or props, people will pay much more attention to what you’re doing than what you’re saying. Standing still and making eye contact ensures your audience -- whoever it may be -- will hear and process what you’re saying.
