Use a hose to separate fighting animals

Growing up we had a fairly lazy, somewhat chubby Cocker Spaniel. One day, she managed to corner a groundhog at our cottage. Both were face to face in a standoff and seconds away from attacking each other. As I assessed the situation, it was obvious to me our dog would get badly hurt in a battle. Luckily there was a hose around the corner so quickly we got it and sprayed the face of our dog sending it backwards and then we grabbed its’ collar. Had we sprayed the groundhog, our dog likely would have attacked the groundhog because we were involved. Tip—use the hose but spray your animal first.
