Confuse Your Muscles

High-priced workout programs pretty much all operate on

High-priced workout programs pretty much all operate on the same principle: if you switch up your workouts and get a good balance of cardio, stretching and weight training, you will get fitter than you otherwise would. This is because your muscles are constantly confused (Are we doing cardio? Are we lifting weights? Since when do we do yoga?) and will never fall into a fitness rut. You don't need to pay a ton of money or watch DVDs to do this on your own. Integrate stretching exercises like pilates or yoga, traditional cardio workouts, and weight training or circuit training days into your routine. Add brisk walks -- at least 45 minutes long -- into your "do nothing" days so your body has recovery time but stays active.
